About living wage data by location
The cost of living in the United States varies dramatically by location. A salary that provides a comfortable life in one place may leave you struggling in another. Our location pages break down the living wage for every U.S. county — showing exactly what it costs for housing, food, healthcare, childcare, transportation, and taxes.
Each location page shows living wage data for 8 household configurations: from a single adult with no children to two adults with three children. We also compare the living wage against the local minimum wage and the federal poverty line so you can see the full picture.
All data is calculated from publicly available federal datasets using the methodology developed by Dr. Amy K. Glasmeier at MIT. We update our calculations annually when new federal data is published.
